The First Warriors

"Churches of the Continum are well worth exploring. They have been small and widely dispersed, but perhaps ECUSA’s meltdown will result in their growth. These represent the first warriors against ECUSA’s innovations. May God pour upon them blessings from heaven."

These are the words of Alice Linsley, the "blog theologian" at Drell's Descants.

For those of you who do not know of her, she is a well-educated, deeply spiritual and highly courageous woman who, in March, renounced her orders as a priest in ECUSA. Sadly, for us, she has just announced her intention to be received into the Antiochian Orthodox Church.

In answer to a question about her journey, she says:

"I came to see that ECUSA’s innovation of ordaining women as priests constitutes a break with catholic orders. Once you abandon catholic orders you also no longer have church discipline. I have been saying all along that the homosexual agenda has advanced by using women’s ordination to the priesthood. ECUSA doesn’t care about catholic orders because it is essentially post-Protestant, at least 2 steps removed from Catholicism. But the true Church is and always will be one, holy, catholic and apostolic. ECUSA can’t claim any of these distinguishing marks. ECUSA in its heretical and unrepentant state is a cult."

Whatever the Continuum is. I, for one, don't belong to a confused "unruly place" called the Continuum, but to a very well ordered jurisdiction called the Anglican province of Christ the King. Let me quote something of mine in the May archives:

...let me add my thoughts about the vagante problem. The simple fact is we have Freedom of Religion in the United States, and in most of the Western world. Whereas this brings many good things, it also creates a situation in which any fool can start a church in his garage. His entire Diocese may cover all of North America, but his membership might consist only of his wife, his neighbor, his neighbor’s wife, and his dog. So, when his dog dies, he loses 20 percent of his church membership. The vagante may trace his orders through disreputable characters, sometimes involving the old practice of Simony. Some guys just want to wear purple shirts and pointed hats. The problem is, these jokers give a bad name to honest and valid bishops who are lumped in with them by some people who assume that all of the non-Canterbury Anglicans are cut from the same cloth. This is why I continue to emphasize the Affirmation of Saint Louis, which states the real basis for why we must exist as separate from ECUSA, and other corrupted national churches of the official Anglican Communion.
