Pray for Fr Tony Clavier

I have received only the barest of news from a friend in the United States, who has asked prayers for Fr Clavier, "who is fighting the Last Battle."

An update from my correspondent on Tuesday night:

He's very weak with pneumonia. They are doing surgery on his lungs to remove infected material. Not directly related to his cancer but from the pneumonia. Mark, his son, said he went into surgery around 9:00 this morning. I haven't heard anything since.

John A. Hollister said...

A Prayer for a Sick Person, when there appeareth but small hope of Recovery.

O FATHER of mercies, and God of all comfort, our only help in time of need; We fly unto thee for succour on behalf of thy servant, Anthony, now lying in great weakness of body. Look graciously upon him, O Lord; and the more the outward man decayeth, strengthen him, we beseech thee, so much the more continually with thy grace and Holy Spirit in the inner man. Give him unfeigned repentance for all the errors of his life past, and stedfast faith in thy Son Jesus; that his sins may be done away by thy mercy, and his pardon sealed in heaven; through the same thy son, our Lord and Saviour. Amen.

For Persons Afflicted.

O MERCIFUL God, and heavenly Father, who hast taught us in thy holy Word that thou dost not willingly afflict or grieve the children of men; look with pity, we beseech thee, upon the sorrows of thy all servants and handmaids who have been misled and spiritually endangered by Anthony Clavier and whose trust and loyalty have been betrayed by him, and for whom our prayers are offered. Remember them, O Lord, in mercy; endue their souls with patience; give them thy healing gift of forgiveness, now that their wrongdoer is in his last extremity; comfort them with a sense of thy goodness; lift up thy countenance upon them, and give them peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

I greatly appreciate Canon Hollister giving us these prayers at this moment. I have just lit a candle and remebered Father Tony seventeen years ago when we walked and talked together in Rome, in happier and more optimistic times. May Holy Mary, who stood faithfully beneath the Cross, be with him and his family at this moment.

Saw the news of his health in his blog.

Lord, in thy mercy: hear our prayer.
