ECUSA has decided to be run by a female primate (which makes it sound just as much a rejection of speciesism as sexism). Beyond the fact that many Anglicans in the official Communion will not accept her as any sort of clergy, including all of the bishops of the largest Church in the Communion (Nigeria), her manifest liberalism shows that the majority of bishops and delegates in ECUSA have made their fashion statement for the next few years. Lots of loyal "conservative" Episcoplians are very upset. Why? Is this really such a surprise? Are they, like Louie in Casablanca, "shocked, shocked?" (A bigger question is, why do they take their children to a church that teaches things that they would not want them to learn from bad kids down the street? But that's a good blog for a later posting). Did they really hope for a return to the Pre-Gene Robinson as a bishop days? Does this spoil their hopes to influence ECUSA to again be a place where "conservative" Epsicopalians can feel comfortable and ignore the rank heresy of their denomination, feeling a little sheltered from its apostasy? Will they ever get that feeling again?
Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.
