Justice and fairness
I have noticed that the public debate about abortion focuses exclusively on how it has an effect on women. The entire discussion is about making things fair. But to add justice to fairness, the focus must again take into account the child. The child is a distinct person whose physical dependence on the mother is always temporary, nine months at most. It reminds me of a meme I saw years ago on Facebook: “Why should male politicians get to decide that a woman’s body serves as life support?” I asked if those male politicians decided this before or after they decided that the earth would orbit the sun. To impose fairness on nature, including human nature, at the expense of justice, is a terrible loss.
