"Mary as New Eve Having Enmity...From the web:

"Mary as New Eve Having Enmity with Satan

Gen 3:15 "I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed: she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel.."

In this verse God addresses Satan. The Seed here is Christ. The Woman is His Mother, that is, Mary. Thus Satan has perfect enmity with Christ and with His Mother. The Catholic Church has interpreted this as indicating the sinlessness of Christ and Mary. If either actually committed sin, then they would not be at enmity with Satan but actually a cooperator with Satan at times."

So, whose heel was it?

The New Jerusalem Bible provides this translation of Gen 3:15:

"I shall put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; it will bruise your head and you will strike its heal."

Rather vague. What is "it?"

The New American Bible renders Gen 3:15 as:

"I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; He will strike at your head, while you strike at his heal."
A note in my Catholic Bible states: "Since the antecedent for he and his is the collective noun offspring, i.e. all the descendants of the woman, a more exact rendering of the sacred writer's words would be, "They will strike... at their heels."

"They" is more in keeping with the thinking that Satan is at enmity with Christ and Mary and, possibly her future offspring if Christians think of Mary as their mother.

The Revised Standard Version renders Gen 3:15 as:

I will put enmity between you and the woman,
and between your seed and her seed;
he shall bruise your head,
and you shall bruise his heel."

It is very similar to the NAB translation.

SusanAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18902745.post-53607472672733557542010-01-25T07:59:31.576-05:002010-01-25T07:59:31.576-05:00Powerful.Powerful.RC Colanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18902745.post-35230260172603855652010-01-24T14:06:16.546-05:002010-01-24T14:06:16.546-05:00A useful link between the Gospel and the Church...A useful link between the Gospel and the Church's responsibility to not dilute the Christian message to suit the modern world's de-Christianised values around marriage.Deacon Down Underhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14903366446394957630noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18902745.post-15775303064650586182010-01-24T01:41:42.987-05:002010-01-24T01:41:42.987-05:00Many thanks for sharing with us Archbishop's S...Many thanks for sharing with us Archbishop's Sheen's insights on the "hour".Jeffersonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18902745.post-75478094745925942872010-01-24T00:56:06.569-05:002010-01-24T00:56:06.569-05:00Amen, and amen.Amen, and amen.Fr.
