My own priest has noted before that the root cause of atheism (in individuals, not as a socio-cultural phenomenon) is more often than not a bad experience with someone of the church. One wonders what might have happened to Dawkins...Nonetheless, one can certainly hope that he has experienced a change of heart, no matter how unlikely that might be in light of his narcissism.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18902745.post-49456003840774232312008-02-19T22:48:00.000-05:002008-02-19T22:48:00.000-05:00"Anonymous @ 8:41" asked Fr. I'm quite certain he does but am one of a number of us who are grateful that he is kind enough to take time away from his other pressing concerns to share his thoughts with those of us who find them useful and instructive.

If you, A.a.e.f.o., are so fortunate as to have already learned all the theology and history you will ever need to know, please take pity on us lesser spirits who are still struggling to catch up to you and who find Messers Land and Pacht and Frs. Hart and Kirby to be helpful and interesting guides along the way.

I can only second Mr. Pacht's suggestion: if our novice understandings are too painfully slow for you, why not betake yourself somewhere else, where things will better match your orbit? (I have no personal knowledge of it, but from what I've read of others' comments about it, you might find "Stand Firm in Faith" to be a more congenial venue....)

In the meantime, let me share with you the regrettably Delphic but important-sounding insight the Blogspot verifier is at this moment vouchsafing to me: "Clehosoc"! May you wear it in good health.

John A. Hollister+John A. If you don't like this blog, you are entirely welcome to take your nose back where it belongs. You have no need to be here if Father Hart's thought provoking words offend you. There are those of us who find them both challenging and helpful.

I seldom speak quite this sharply, but, if that's all you have to offer, well, please, do everyone a favor and just go away. If, however, you do have something relevant to say on any of our topics, and can keep a civil tongue in your keyboard, you are quite welcome.

edpoetreaderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11613032927883843078noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18902745.post-10637805781996624832008-02-19T16:02:00.000-05:002008-02-19T16:02:00.000-05:00It was reported a few times in September or Octobe...It was reported a few times in September or October from Oxford. Do you do anything but sit in front of your computer spewing posts for this blog in a clear effort to affirm your obvious pride in your own intellect? I've known quite a few priests and they are all far too busy serving their parishioners to churn out such a constant stream of pontificating. Shurely shome mishtake!

I think that it is unlikely to be true, but if so then it is far more likely that he is gathering material for his next best-seller. Dawkins is many things: a good biologist, an excellent communicator and someone who does a fantastic job of demystifying science (that's his job, by the way - to promote the public understanding of science). However, he has an ego the size of Mars, and I rather suspect that even if God were to manifest at his bedside, he would be pathologically unable to admit that he had been wrong all this time.

He's a very nice man, as it happens. It's just that he has this huge chip on his shoulder about God and religion in general, and Christianity in particular.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18902745.post-76688844972784875562008-02-19T04:04:00.000-05:002008-02-19T04:04:00.000-05:00What is this about Dawkins going to Mass?
